LANKEY GULLY.

CEMENT COMPANY. The local directors of this company visited the mine on Thursday, for the purpose of thoroughly inspecting the lately acquired property with a view of deciding upon the site of the machinery, and also to give the whole of the ground the most minute examination previous to entering upon a large outlay for plant and preliminary works. After having spent the day in a general survey of the ground itself, and also of the features of the adjoining country, they expressed themselves perfectly satisfied with the bona fide nature of the undertaking, and the facilities offering for bringing it to a successful issue. They found that machinery could be placed on the spot without any additional outlay for road-making. They approved of the machine-site selected by Mr Anderson. They also, after careful examination of the coal seam, which had been purchased near their property by that gentleman on behalf of the company previous to registration, expressed the utmost confidence in the quality and quantity of that deposit. On the claim they found larger outcrops of cement than formerly noticed, and recommended to a meeting of shareholders held this day the advisability of nt once procuring the necessary machinery for working the cement. Acting upon this recommendation it was resolved to despatch Mr Beeehe to Auckland, whci<? it was known suitable milling apmratvn -,t.tj to be had — with full poy.-er

to negotiate the purchase of a 15-head battery, find to bring it over without delay. When the battery is erected it is intended to convey the cement and other auriferous substances to the mill in flumes with the aid of water, so that the stuff will have to undergo the double process of sluicing and crushing.
