INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
An adjourned meeting of the County Council was held in the Council Chambers last night, there being present the Chairman (Mr P. Brennan), and Messrs Craig, Byriie; WillrarM/'FejaHah/Wd PWt<ks6&t' Letter read from the Westland County Council re united action to induce the Government to assume the maintenance of main roads. From Nelson Borough Council soliciting co-opefatioh in urging Government to improve the road between Nelson and Keefton, so as to render it fit for dray and coach traffic— lt was resolved that the representative of the district be asked to co-operate with the. members for Nelson, Buller, Greymduth, and Westland for the purpose of endeavoring to secure a special grant for that purpose. It was decided to refund the sum of £3 to Mr Waite in consideration of his license having. been cancelled. Letter from Mr W. H. Hobby re demand drill, gost^pf same, and with reapeefr'to payittentf ifedstating that the order for the machine had been forwarded by letter, and that to secure greater despatch a cablegram would follow to the same effect, provided that the Council were prepared to pay a deposit of one- third, say £400, of the cost. In explanation the Chairman stated that the Government would provide half the costs provided the drill were ordered at once. If this were not done at once Government had expressed their intention of withdrawing the offer and handing it over to the Diamond Drill Company, projected some time ago. He- further stated that at the previous meeting of the Council a committee was appointed to wait upon the manager of the bank and endeavor to obtain an overdraft for the purpose. — Matter referred to the Executive Committee, with power to act. letter from Mr Weston respecting the Christchurch Exhibition, accompanied by a list of forms for exhibits. Also a letter from Mr Thornton on the same subject, enclosing circular. It transpired from the correspondence that the time for application of space could not be made later than the 25th instant. Proposed by the Chairman, that the Exhibition Committee take immediate steps for securing specimens for exhibits. Seconded by Mr Feehan, and gamed. A letter was received from fihe 1 Coionial Secretary, referring to the granting of the extension of time for preparation of the Valuation Roll. A letter was read from Uobert Lees, asking for aid from the Council, having been hurt at the suspension bridge, Crushington, and incapacitating him from work. The injury sustained lie estimated at £'30. It was resolved that the letter be not entertained. Telogram road from Colonial Treasurer agreeing to guarantee an overdraft for £2000 for purchase of diamond drill, provided that the County revenue' is paid to credit of tho loan in the bank. Lotter from 200 inhabitants of Boat man's asking that the short track to Boatman's be made available for horse traffic. Engineer directed to prepare specifications and estimate of cost.
