RAINY CREEK.
Since the formation of this new company, a great deal of energy has been infused into the preliminary operations now on hand, and active preparations are being mado to have the works fairly started at no reiytUstant date. Workmen are employed re-tim-bering and securing the mine where required. Others are engaged giving the machinery a thorough overhaul, while the contractors are busy at work sawing timber for tramways, shoots and paddocks which require repairs after long exposure to the weather. The whole is expected to be in readiness for general operations in three weeks time. It is satisfactory to note that local, investors have testified to their .appreciation of the prospects of the undertaking, by almost exclusively taking up the stock of this company, which, owing to adverse comments from a few persons in Reefton, who were personally interested in retarding the successful floating of this company, was neglected Sh' quarters from whence cordial cc^oiperation was at first expected. However, the company is now established on a sound basis, and the general opinion favors the prediction that the venture will, before long, prove satisfactory
