The trial of Lawson, surgeon, on a charge of poisoning his brother in-law was concluded to-day, with a verdict of guilty, and he was sentenced to death. The Queen left "Windsor to-day for the South of France. The radical leaders in the House of Commons and outside, are agitating for a mitigation of the prison treatment of Irish suspects in custody in Ireland. Washington, March 13. i The Bill for the abolition of Polygamy in the United States has passed finally in Congress. Melbourne, March 14. A libel action against the Argus by Williams, Minister of Mines, under the Berry administration, has resulted in 'a verdict for the defendants. The jury finding that the comments were justifiable. The widow of Bailliere, publisher, has been awarded L 3,000 oompensation for the loss of her husband, in the Jolimont railway accident. The Austrailian cricketers are passengers by steamer Assam to-day. Adelaide, March 15. Hicks, Barber, and Horton are committed for trial, for defrauding the Mutual Provident Society.
