VICTOR EMANUEL.
This company have for some time past carried on prospecting on their lease, with, on the whole, favourable results, as the reef, carrying gold throughout, has been proven for a considerable distance. A level is still being taken in on the stone, and, as the company is now properly formed, operations will be taken in hand upon a larger scale. A great drawback to the development of this line of reef is the want of a practicable track to the locality. The miners at present have to carry provisions and mining goods upon their backs a distance of several miles, and the company is compelled to pay a much higher rate of wages than is the case in other parts of the district. This state of affairs would not obtain were there
proper means of access to the claim, and it is to be hoped the County Council will see its way to authorising the construction of a pack track to this promising locality.
