Surprise is expressed that Parnell, who, since being liberated on parole, has been visiting Paris, has not surrendered to-day as required by the authorities, A report is current in London this evening that he has been shot whilst en route for England, but the news has not been confirmed, and it is generally believed he is still in Paris. Later. The report current to-day that an attempt had been made on his life while en route from Paris has been proved tP be without foundation. A special commission has been appointed to try the case of Roderick M'Lean, who attempted to shoot the Queen, and who was committed for trial on a charge of high treason by the Windsor magistrates on March 10th, The Commission heM its first sitting at Beading to-day. Further charges were heard against the Marquis of Huntley at the police court to-day. The prosecution, however, failed to establish a case, and the charges were consequently dismissed. April 19. A disastrous colliery explosion took place at Tudhoe. A large number of men were employed in the mine. Thirty-nine are known to have met their deaths. The police have captured ten persons at Cork on a charge of treason. The arrests were made on the evidence of a former accomplice. April 13. The Daily News states that Sir Arthur Gordon is about to resign the Governorship of New Zealand, Sir Stafford Northcote has promised cordial assistance to the Government in vigorously and sensibly putting an end to the present disturbed state of Ireland. Five thousand Jews have been ex pelled from Moscow. Melbourne, April 19, Some doubt exists whether the reported case of small-pox is really genuine variola. The doctors at present are unable to decide.
