AUSTRALIAN SUMMARY PER ROTORUA.
Sydney. April 14. The Colonial Secretary has received a telegram from Wilcannia strtingthat provisions are now plentiful, and that sickness is now decreasing. A 25-ton gun was accidentally sunk at the Heads but was brought up by the divers. A peculiar disease has broken out among draught horses in Dubbo district The hind legs swell, after which the animals stagger and die, The country between Forbes and Condolin is suffering terribly from drought. Hundreds of sheep and cattle are dying from want of grass and water. Melbourne, April 14. The Government have resolved to adopt Sir John Coode's scheme for opening up the Gippsland lakes, costing £60,000. Brisbane, April 14. A telegram has been received reporting the loss of a boat belonging to the labour schooner Chance, with all hands, off Tanna. It is supposed to have been swamped.
