CROŒSUS.
Thursday, April 13. Work at this mine is going on apace. The contractors at No. 2 level are pushing the work rapidly ahead, the tunnel now being in a distance of 270 feet. The track of reef recently met with continues in the face, having now been followed for upwards of 70 feet During the last few sets there has been a copious flow of water, the volume
increasing- as the driving proceeds. It is considered that the blocks of quartz which were intersected in the early part of No. 1 tunnel should now shortly be met with in the present driving, should they live down this depth. The main line of reef will probably be picked up when a distance of about 320 to 340 feet has been driven. The contract recently let for constructing' rise and paddock over No. 3 level is well ahead. A distance of 10 feet has been risen, and sinking has also been done to a depth of 8 or 10 feet It is expected that the contract will be out of hand in about three weeks. The manager, Mr Fantella, is carrying out works necessary to connect No. 1 level with the shoot Generally speaking, the opening up of this mine is proceeding smoothly and rapidly.
