(from our own correspondent.} London, May 23. The mateh — Australasians against the Orleans Club was commenced to-day, and resulted in a draw in favor of the English. In the House of Commons to-day a motion giving precedence to the Irish Repression Bill, which has been introduced by Government, was carried by a substantial majority ; and it was further decided that the question of payment of arrears iv Ireland should be dealt with after the Repression BilL The House will sit to-morrow for tha special purpose of dealing with the latter measure, which was read a second time to-day by a majority of 1 13. The death is announced of Sir Jno. Holker, aged 54. Deceased was Attor-ney-General in the late Beaconsfield administration, and was, in January last, appointed Lord Chief Justice of AppeaL Reports which have circulated to the effect that Parnell intended to resign his seat in parliament are now declared to be without foundation. London, May 24. The following is the result of the Derby which was run at Epsom to-day : Shotover 1 ; Quicklime 2 ; Sachem 3. Cairo, May 22. Further communications have passed between the Porte and the ambassadors of England and France, on the subject of the dispatch of the squadrons to Alexandria — satisfactory assurances have been given, and the Sultan has been appeased. The Grand Vizier, it has transpired, has promised, if the squadrons are now withdrawn, that they shall be called upon to return in the event of any necessity for their presence in Egyptians waters arising. Sydney, May 23. Telegrams have been received from Woollongong, reporting that the steam collier, Llewelyn, 478 tons, from this port, has been wrecked near that place. May 25. A grand review of the permanent artillery and Volunteer forces took place yesterday in Moore Park, before the Governor — 1548 men were under arms, and they were warmly complimented upon their appearance and efficiency by his Excellency. Robert Ramsay, formerly Chief Secretary of Victoria. May 24. A great demonstration of the fire brigade took place last night A torchlight procession was formed, in which fully 3000 persons took part, The demonstration passed off with great eclat. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned last night as a mark of respect for the late Hon. >Robert Ramsay, formerly Chief Secretary for the Colony. A great fire broke out to-day in the Government Printing Office, Treasury Gardens. It is believed that the building has been completely gutted, and the fire, notwithstanding all efforts to extinguish it, is still burning. Later. The Government Printing Office has been partially gutted by fire which occurred to-day, and which has now been extinguished. The damage is not so great as at first believed, but considerable loss has been occasioned. Adelaide, May 24. The Queen's Birthday Cup, which was run to-day, resulted as follows : — Darebin ... ... ... 1 Crystal 2 Topaz 2 There were 15 starters, and Darebin won by a length and a quarter.
