UNITED ALPINE.
Since this company's battery stopped, various works for the improvement of the mine have been carried out. No. 4 level has been made higher, and re-timbered 160 feet, and has also been laid with iron rails. About 120 feet more will enable the manager to block out stone. A rise has been started on the south block, and is up 35 feet, the width of stone being six feet ; it will take about 30 feet more to reach the surface. The lower intermediate level has been driven north 55 feet. At 25 feet a cross-cut was put in, upon driving four feet the rise which connects the intermediate level with No. 5 level was struck, thus establishing complete ventilation of this part of the mine, and also providing means to till in the stopes over No. 5 level. The re-timbering of No. 5 level is expected to be completed this week. During last month 277 tons of stone were broken out whilst the different works in connection with securing the mine were proceeding. The claim is now in excellent order. Crushing will be resumed in a few days.
