UNITED ALPINE.
The work of repairing this mine is still going on vigorously. Timbering at No. 5 level was finished on Wednesday, and trucking would be started at once. The different works mentioned last week are well advanced, and the manager will shortly be stoping in several portions of the mine from the different blocks. Mr E. W. Butler, the company's surveyor, is engaged in the execution of a complete survey of the workings, and when this is completed Mr Black will be in a position to carry on operations with much more ease than formerly. Mr Mason, the contractor for construction of paddock, and shoot between Nob. 4 and 5 levels, is pushing his work ahead as fast as possible. He has experienced great difficulty in procuring timber, which has somewhat retarded the progress of the contract. At No. 6 level the contractors are making fair headway having now about 240 feet to' drive to finish the contract. The company's battery will probably commence crushing next week.
