HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

Wellington, September 2. It is still supposed that the Parliamentary session will be finished^ either at the end of next week or the beginning of the week after. The most likely thing is that all the business intended to be done will be got through by next Saturday, and that the prorogation ■will take place about the following Tuesday. Sir George Grey took his departure by the Arawata last night, for Auckland. Shortly after " the Commons" resumed yesterday afternoon the Speaker left the chair, in order that the House might go into Committee on the following Bills successively : — Special Powers and Contracts Bill ; Borough of Hamilton Boundaries Bill ; Auckland Museum Endowment Bill ; Auckland Improvement Acts Amendment Bill ; Auckland Railway Station Bill ; 1- xplosives Bill ; Dangerous Goods Bill ; Patea Harbor Land Bill ; Te Aroha Township Bill ; Importation, . Adulteration and Examination of Tea Bill ; Law Practitioners Bill (No. 2) ; Cemeteries Bill ; M ining Companies Act Amendment Bill ; Public Reserve* Safes Bill ; Rating Bill ; Counties Act Amendment Bill ; load Boards Bill ; h'oads and Bridges Construction Bill: Customs Duties Consolidation Bill ; and Crown and Native Land Rating Bill. The first ten Bills were got through Committee with slight amendments in some instances and without amendments in others. The Law Practitioners Bill was next taken in hand and several amendments were proposed with varying success before Bill was reported. The Mining Companies Act Amendment Bill was strenuously opposed in Committee by Mr Suddon and other Golfiekls members, and after the supper .adjournment the Minister of Mines agreed to a proposal tn report progress, and obtained leave to another day. Wliile regretting that he was compelled to adopt this

course he freely admitted that there was a great deal to be Raid on the other Bide. The following bills wore then reported and read a 3rd time and passed. The Special Powers and Contracts Bill ; Borough of Hamilton Boundaries Bill ; ! Auckland Museum Endowment ill;'; A uckland Railway Station ill ; Patea Harbor Land • ill £Te Aroha Township i ill ; Law Practitioners • ill. At la. m the House adjourned till 11 o'clock. September, 2. The House resumed at- 11 o'clock. Several notices of motion were given and reports presented. The 3rd reading of the Customs Duties Consolidation Bill was postponed till Monday, in order to allow the Colonial Treasurer to put the final touches to the measure, and the Cemeteries Bill and Mining Companies Act 1872 Amendment Bill were also proposed. In Committee the bill was re-committed and passed without mendment. The Rating Bill was further considered. On clause 30 Mr Seddon suggested that the period of G months, with reference to- the leasing or selling of property by the public trustee should be er>tended. Colonel Trimbel moved an amendment as a provision that the Public Trustee should endeavor to lease the land in preference to selling it. The Colonial Treasurer advised the mover of the amendment to withdraw it 4>m. being put to the voices the amendment was lost and the clause ordered to stand as printed. The clauses us printed having been disposed of a new clause moved by Major •Ukitißon, leaving it optional for boroughs to come under the Bill was carried by a large majority. ' n amendment by Mr Seddon to add the words "or counties or road boards or town districts boards " was lost by 50 to 1(5. The bill was then reported with amendments.
