(from our own correspondent.) Auckland, September 4. Mr C. B. Stone has-been elected one of the directors of the Mutual Insurance Company. Between 70,000 and SO,OOO shares have been taken up. William Walters, the well-known sportsman and horse-breeder, died tonight, at the age of 54 years. Timaeu, September 4. At the inquest on the late Mr R. H, Tates, a verdict was returned that deceased died from a n't of serious apoplexy. During the last week, nearly 40 feet of the solid concrete work of the breakwater, was completed, and the work is progressing very rapidly. An additional 220 feet of wooden wharf will be finished in about a fortnight. The solid concrete work now-, extends about 1200 feet seaward, with 24 feet of water at dead low springtides. At the outer end the work is progressing
at a rate of about 60 feet per month. 'I he prisoner wished to be sent to Oamaru immediately, but tho Bench granted the remand. This is the first case under the Criminal Fugitives Act.
