During tho past week tilings hays been very dull in mining, matters generally, whether a3 Tegiirds any new finds in the mines, or activity in the" share markut.4 After a storm Always coiues a lull, and in this respect the recent " spurt " only fulfils the usual conditions. At the same •vine- though business is not brisk, there is nothing like panic in the market. A i iiifmber of speculators "plunged " lately, and have had to sell at a loss, thereby reducing values temporarily, but there are no more sacrifices to be made, and holders are quite content to remain so. There has been an enquiry fo£ Golden Arch and Great Western scrip, and parcels have been quitted in both at from Is 9d to 2s. The Keep-it-Darks are firm at £3 55., with few sellers. In the Inkcrman claim at Rainy Creek, a splendid outcropping coal seam has been found measuring no less than 7|ft across. The mineral is of excellent quality, and the discovery will largely add to the wealth of the district. Throughout the limngahua the most perfect confidence in tho f utnre of tho various mines, including a very large proportion of the recently applied for leases, prevails, and the next few months promise to be busy ones.
