MINING N EWS

THE WEEK,

[From our Mining Reporter.]

Saturday, October 6, 1882.

Although tho week opened tamely enough, a visible improvement has been manifest for the last few days, and there is every reason to believe that the district is now on the eve of another great forward stride. From many quarters the most cheering accounts are to hand, and a general re-awakening is taking place. The old Hopeful has at length emerged from its long obscurity, and seems in a fair way to prove a worthy next-door neighbor to the Welcome. There was quite a rush for Hopefuls to-day, the market closing with an active demand at 103. The occasion of the demand is the striking -of an entirely new reef in the mine, 4ft. thick. News of an equally sensational nature comes from the Globe wine, and others in that locality. At the Golden Point mine also the prospects are of the brightest order, and taken all round the out-look is exceedingly good. The Imperial Company takes its place today in the list of productive ventures, and the beginning is in every way a satis-

factory one.

Tho following are tho battery returns for the past week : — •

"Welcome. — 309 oz. amalgam from 80 tons of stone.

Keep-it-Dark. — 395 oz. amalgam from 174 tons of stone.

Imperial. — 158ozs. of amalgam, from 94 tons of stone.
