Friday, December 9. Good progress is being made with the cross-but, s|o feet having been driven during/the week. At the machine sifce, tfie contractor is making good lieadA*ay, a fulL *<jo»j>lement of hands are &eafpstifoo**Mf every endeavour is being made to complete the work by Ohristmas. The ten-head battery, contract for supply of which was let to Messrs Kincaid, M'Queen and Co., was shipped at Dunedin this week, and should arrive at Westport in a day or two. The battery will be driven by a turbine, the water to supply the same being lifted from the Lyell Creek, at a distance of seven chains, where a dam having a breastwork of about 16 feet in height will be constructed. The directors will shortly make arrangements for conveyance of the machinery from Westport to the scene of operations.
