The new Parliament opened to-day, Mr E. Barton, one of the members for East Sydney was elected Speaker, the re-election of Sir G. W. Allen, being negatived by the Opposition by 51 votes to 47.
Sir Henry Parkes announced that the Ministry had teudered their resignation to his Excellency the Governor.
It is expected that Mr Alexander Stuart will be summoned by Lord Loftus, and charged with the formation of a new Ministry.

Mr A. Stuart has been summoned by the Governor to undertake the formation of a new Ministry, and is now engaged in the task. Brisbane, 4.
The Queensland revenue during the last quarter amounted to £560,000, an increase of £135,000 compared with the corresponding period of 1881. For the half-year ended December 21, the revenue was £1,160,000, an increase of £103,000 on the previous year. The expenditure in December quarter amounted to £857,000.

A fire broke out last night at the Telegraph and Post Office in this city. It originated in a storeroom, but was fortunately discovered early, and was extinguished within two hours. The damage done was not serious, and principally arose from water and hasty removal of goods. London, 3. It has transpired that the Egyptian Government has proposed to the Powers that the present mixed international tribunals in Egypt, should only be prolonged for another year, instead of for an indefinite time. Berlin, 8. Further heavy rain has fallen in the southern provinces, and floods in the Rhine Valley have extended. A number of towns and valleys are inundated, and several persons have been drowned. Vienna, 3. A severe storm of rain has been experienced in the northern districts of Austria, and disastrous floods have occurred, resulting in much destruction of property and loss of life. It is announced that the loan of £1,000.000 at four per cent for the Government of New Zealand will be placed on the market on the 11th inst., the minimum is fixed at 98|. The man Delaney who was arrested on the 12th November last, for attempted assassination of Judge Lawson, in Dublin, has been found guilty of conspiracy to murder, and been sentenced to penal servitude for ten years. The morning papers announced that the loan of £4,000,000 for the Victorian Government, will be placed in the market on the 9th inst., part of the issue being at par. Pakis, 2, The funeral of M. Gambetta will take place on the fifth inst. The press
referring to M. Gambetta's death asserts that the stability of the Republic will not be in any way endangered by the loss it has suffered, but it declares that concord in the state is an imperative necessity at the present time.
