CROESUS.
Friday, March 30. The contractors in this company's rise arc making good headway, the distance attained up to the present being 70 feet. The reef maintains the usual average thickness right - through*^ although dunug th^B£!lßJp?s feetunven it' widened out to better than two feet, but has again come back to the regular dimensions, viz., about 15 to 18 inches. Sinking is also being continued in the shaft by the contractors who have sunk to the present about 25 feet, which makes the total depth of the shaft now about 46 feet the reef in the bottom being of good width. The hands engaged at the company's dam will shortly complete the logging, after which a bank of about a chain in length will be constructed. This will back the water for a long distance up the creek, and will give an unlimited pressure. The* j dam is being constructed of very heavy timbers, and from the manner in which the work is being carried out, it should permanently resist the heavy strain it will have to bear by the great weight of water which will be upon it. Messrs Kincaid, M'Queen & Go's hands are buisy employed at the preliminary works — dressing and preparing timber, &c— in connection with the erection of machine house and battery, and will shortly have a good face upon the work.
