UNITED ALPINE.

The usual number of hands are employed stoping from the " hanging blook." This is the only stone at present being sent to the mill, the block of stone which was recently met in the No. 4 level western cross-cut having pinched out. It was at first believed that this block was the western reef to intersect which the cross-cut was started, but a late survey, made since the above stone gave out, shows that a short distance further requires to be driven to get the western block. With this object Mr Conradson is now continuing the cross-cut, and has already driven 18 or 20 feet past where the last block of stone was met with so that the main western block may make its appearance aii any moment. The only other work in hand at present is that of driving cross-cut from the main rise near the intermediate level with the object of intersecting the foot wall of the hanging block. The manager calculates upon being able to supply about 130 to 140 tons of stone weekly from the hanging block, for the next five or six weeks. The usual progress is being mado by the' contractors at No. 6 level. The battery manager will not scrape the plates to-day as the general monthly cleaning up will be made after Saturday. The directors meet on Monday evening.
