UNITED ITALY.
The battery was stopped on Monday, the whole of the crushing stuff at present available having been put through. A cake of 57 ounces of gold waa obtained, 65 tons of stone having been reduced during 18 days. The north reef after having been worked for a distance of between 170 and 180 feet, has given out, there being now only a few small broken quartz leaders showing in the face. The manager is now rising from No. 2 level, upon about five inches of stone, which it is thought may have some connection with the main reef. This rise is now up 10 to 12 feet. ' A cross-cut has also been started from No. 1 level to the westward, in the hanging wall side. It is now in about 12 feet, and will be continued some is very hard, but a change of country is shortly expected, as a ran of quartz will be crossed at about 16 or 18 feet from the starting point. Four hands are engaged in this contract, and the number of wages hands at present employed is also four.
