. Friday, June 8. Great energy is being manifested in the opening up of this mine, and the whole of the outside works, as well as those within the mine, are in a very forward state. Some of the stone broken from the face in No 2 level on Tuesday last exhibited a highly encouraging display of precious metal the gold being very evenly distributed right through the quartz. From the appearance of the different works going on everything should be ready to commence crushing by about the middle of July. TJiere i$ now about 100 tons of quarMin the lower paddock and. tlip uppej 1 paddock is also full so that with the number of hands at present employed upon the reef a large sifced parcel will be broken out by 1 the time the battery is ready to operate upon it. The mining manager (Mr Fantella) reports as follows: — "No 1 level — Two rises up, one being now 20 feet high, the other 24 feet ; reef averaging from 1 to 2 feet, and showing gold. No 2 level — The reef has been driven on up to the present, since striking it 118 feet, averaging from 1 to 2 feet in thickness, and the gold improving as the level is extended northwards. Battery — Work is advancing rapidlj, and contractors expect to complete' Jby the end of the present month. Head-Race — Will most likely be completed first week in Jnly, weather permitting."
