FIERY CROSS EXTENDED.
A general cleaning up took place at the battery on Saturday last, after i running through 485 tons of stone, the 1 yield being 6560z5. of retorted gold, or j about loz. 6dwts. per ton. The re- < suit has not come out quite as well as \ the earlier stages of the crushing mdi- ] cated, but is nevertheless a good < return, and augurs well for the future i
of the mine. The proceeds will wipe off the whole of the company's liabilities, and possibly may leave a sufficient surplus to give the shareholders a sixpenny dividend. The expenditure on the mine for months past has been heavy, but the ground is now thoroughly opened up, ,and the large area of -stone already proved will soou prove the wisdom of the expenditure. The shareholders are to be congratulated upon the prospects of the undertaking.
