GLOBE.
A large number of persons interested in quartz mining assembled at the works to-day for the purpose of vitnessing the trial start of the machinery. The battery is twenty-head, and is driven by a Whitelaw turbine with 40ft. vertical pressure. Shortly after 4 p.m. everything was in readiness, the race being in full flow. The water was then turned on, and the turbine registering the full specified power, the battery Avas connected, and for the Hrst time the roar of the stampers re sounded in the locality. The trial was
emeneutly successful, the •whole of the machinery working to perfection, and not the slightest defect being discoverable in any particular. Everything is now ready for crushing but the aerial tramway, which will be completed and handed over to the company during ' the incoming week, immediately upon which the reduction of stone will com: lnence.
