GLOBE COMPANY.

As already < reported, the stampers have been run to 75 strokes a minute, which is about the maximum speed needed for stone in this field. The effectiveness of the battery and motive power is therefore established. The completion of the aerial tramway is now the only requisite to enable crushing to be commenced. The contractors have been rushing the work during the past few days, in order, if possible, to get it finished this week. They succeeded so far that they were able to set the tramway in motion to-day for a trial, and had the satisfaction of knowing that everything worked splendidly. The specifications provide for a speed of two and a-half miles per hour on the line, but this rate of locomotion was not reached to-day, the trial being only a preliminary one to test tbfe point* of greatest sag in the wires, and so foith. ihe practicability of the undertaking being now assured, thn matter of speed is a thing of detail, which will follow. Before the date of my next report I have no doubt the batteiy will be in active operation.
