The train which was conveying visitors to the races had passed the North Melbourne "station, when the axle of one df-thfe sefcond-class carriages broke, causing the carriage to upset. Three passengers, who were severely injured, were conveyed to the Hospital, and one of them now lies in a serious condition., Several other, passengers suffered -injuries of a less serious character. The Salvationist Knowles, who confessed to having murdered the actor Bates, and was arrested by the police, was brought up at the Police' Court today, and remanded for a week. Brisbane, 15. The Hon. S. W. The gasworks were totally destroyed by the violence of the wind, the manager being killed, and other damage to a considerable extent was done to railways and property along the path of the storm, (Received . Nov. 13,0.55 a.m.) Melboirne, 12. Betting on the Mares Produce Stakes at the post was 9 to 4 in favor of M irtini-Henri. The three persons who were taken to the hospital were the^nly passengers who were injured by the railway accident on the Essendon line. The remainder escaped with a severe shaking. The Australian overland telegraph line is interrupted.
