Nelson, 19 At the Supreme Court to-day the only criminal charges were those against Hees, Evans, Lawrence and Halpme, who were indicted for stealing, property belonging to the trustee in the deed of assignment executed by Mrs Hutchison, of Havelock, and against Daniel Davidson, charged with receiving the same. The cases did not conclude till late this eveuing, when the jury found Halpme not guilty and Evans and Davidson, whom they strongly recommended to mercy, guilty. His Honor, Mr Justice Richmond, said the cases were not ordinary ones of larceny and receiving, and sentenced the two men to a month's imprisonment each, but without hard labor. A deputation from the W^st Coast of the South Island waited upon the Government to-day in reference to certain local matters. The deputation consisted of MrE. They first waited upon the Minister for Public Works, to request the election of a certain bridge on the Arnold River might be proceeded with at once, and next they sought the Minister of Mines to urge that the Parliamentary vote for prospecting tracks should lie used to assist" the efforts being made in this direction by the County Com -.oil. Both Ministers promised to give due consideration to the requests of the deputation.
