Schoolgirl led from the commencement of the race, • with Kawatiri in close attendance, until the last round, when Patten whipped up Prince, securing agoofff second place. HackKace — Saddle andßridle, value £T 10s. 1 mile heats. Gallon's Brighton - - - 1 , There also started— Quigley's Jimmy Braddock's Tommy Dodd, Falia's Ittosquito and Dixon's Duugan Boy tlie -winuer (a Brighton- Bred pony) •v^as too' good for the- company, winning the two successive heats. Buller Handicap— £4s ; f miles. Se6ond horse to receive £5 from ihe sti'ke. Sytinga, Bst - - - 1 Duggnn's Lillipie. aged, Bat 41b - 2 Stevenson's- Schoolboy, aged, Bst 61b - 0 Wiliams's Forester, agud, Bat 4lb - 0 Kawatiri, 7st lilb - - - 0 Prince and Maid of Honer did not saddle up. This was the race for the " big money," and jt was excellently contested.: Syringajumped away with the lead, with Schoolboy on her quarter, followed by Lillipie Forester and Kawatiri, in theorder named. The two Nelson hoises remained in close company for three-fourths of the Distance, Syt'inga always leading, but Schoolboy then fell back. Liilipie came up with a rush; and raced the winner down the straight, less than half a length separating the <wo at the finish The fourth ! time past the Judge's box ended the race, and Hannigan then checked ! Syringa. Lynch, however, continued racing Lillipie, thinking there was another round, and Hannigan followed him, the i*esult being that . Lillipie finished, first on the fifth round. The 3 ndge declared Syringa the winner, and there was much angry disputation : amongst owners, jocks, and public as I to whether the horses had passed the box four or five times. A protest was I entered hy Lippie's owner, but it was subsequently withdrawn. Hard 1 3 Handicap' £15; 2 miles — over 8 flights of hurdles. Lillipie, 10s' - - - 1 ovestur, Bst 41b - - - (J Kawatiri and Schoolboy were stratched. Forester did not fancy the ; hurdle at the ack of the 'course, and | his baulking there lost him any chance !he had for the race. In the third 1 round, Lillipie struck fche hurdle opposite the booths and came to earth ; no harm was done, and Maher svas i immediately in. the saddle again. t'orstpr was too far behind to gain any j ad van* aje from the mishap.
