INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
«. The monthly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday last. Present: Messrs Brenuan, (chair) Feehan, Craig, Byrne, Patterson, and Irving. The following correspondence was received and dealt with as under : — From the manager of the Inkerman Company, asking for an extension of the Rainy Creek track to the company's mine. — Matter held over till next meeting. From the Mines Department, stating that the Warden had reported re land proposed to be" taken for road purposes from T. Lynch's agricultural leasehold, and asking Council's approval thereto. Consideration of matter deferred till next meeting. From G. Perotti, re Dauntless Company's head-race. From George Joice, asking for repair of road to his brick-yard. From Chairman Greymouth High School, stating that the Inanj/ahua representative's seat on the Board had become vacant. From Mr Hindmarsh, waiving the right of the Welcome Consols Company to the use of the County diamond drill. From Survey Department, re survey of track through the Cannibal Gorge. From Grey County Council, forwarding documents re tollage. From Joseph Pays, requesting certain information re diamond drill. From Alfred Smith, stating that Armstrong and party were prospecting up the Deep Dale, within the luauga-
hua County, and that'it would be advisable to assist them. Pram Armstrong and party, asking for assistance to enable them to prospect within the County for two months. — Application not entertained. From the Mines Department, re the surrender of milling leases for nonpayment of rent. From W. C. Mirfin, accepting the offer of £20 for maintenance of road and ford at Little Grey. From the captain of the Fire Brigade, asking the Council to erect a bellfry for the new fire-bell. Resolved on the motion of Mr Patterson that a new belfry be erected on the site of the present one, 10ft. higher, but wider than the present one. From the manager No. 2 Keep-it-Dark Company, withdrawing application for use of County diamond drill. From Gallagher Bros., regarding compensation for land washed away through action of the Council. Matter ordered to stand over till next meeting, engineer to inspect and report in the interval. From A. Ceredeto, asking the Council to disinter bodies buried in the old cemetery. Application granted. On the motion of Mr Feehan, a sum of £20 charitable aid was voted to Mrs Irving, to enable her to proceed to Victoria. From F. Pattinsen and others, requesting the Council to extend Strand road from Bridge-street to Upper Broadway. Eesolved that the matter be not entertained. From J Cavanagh, A. Moor, and E De Young, applying the appointment of sexton. Proposed by Mr Byrne, seconded by Mr Williams and carried, that John Cavanagh be appointed sexton. . The engineer submitted plans for a reservoir to contain 900,000 gallons of water. Resolved that the capacity of the reservoir be reduced to 600,000 gallons. Resolved that as soon as the engineer supplies the necessary information re water pipes, the executive committee be empowered to deal with the matter and order them. J. B. Beeche was appointed Reefton delegate to Greymouth High School Board. Resolved that the construction of the road asked for by the propertyholders of Bridge-street be postponed until the Council is in a better tinan cial position. Proposed by Mr Craig, seconded by Mr Feehan, and carried, that the Chairman's salary for the present year be fixed at £20Q per annum. Proposed by Mr Craig, seconded by the Chairman, and carried, that the Was c Lauds Board be recommended to survey and put up to auction the reserve on the south side of Black's Point, as an extension of the township. ~" Resolved Olffche motion of Mr Patterson that the County diamond drill be offered for sale to a company, on condition that the applications of companies for its use be granted in the order made. The following notice of motion was made by Mr Feehan : — That the following motion be rescinded — That in future no refund of license fees be made to parties obtaining licenses, and that this resolution be publicly notified for one month. Seconded by Mr Williams and lost. A number of accounts was then past for payment and the Council adjourned.
