INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Present : Messrs Brennan (chair), Williams, Patterson^aiid Ribet. CORRESPONDENCE : From Mr D. M'Gregor asking for repairs to Mangle's road. Resolved that the sum of LlO be expended, and that the expenditure be entrusted to Mr M'Gregor, and that the work be done by contract. From Mr William Cochrane, requesting the Council to permit the correction of an error of 45 nkde by him when tendering for reservoir. Mr Patterson moved — That a bonus of L5O be paid to Mr ochrane upon completion of his contract. This motion was subsequently withdrawn. From F. Archer, requesting compensation for repairing punt. Resolved that a similar amount be allowed Mr Archer as was allowed Mr Brandt on a similar occasion for repairs. From Mrs Haines requesting Council tp vote her pecuniary assistance under the head of " l haritable Aid." Moved by Mr Williams, seconded by Mr Ribet, and carried. That the application be not entertained. From the Town Clerk, Caversham, re land grants for the endowment of hospitals and charitable institutions. Resolved that the member for the district be requested to bring the matter before Government. From Mr Munro, M.H.R., re dray bridge in place of foot bridge over Matakitaki. Resolved that the consideration of the letter be held over until next meeting. From James Heverlin asking £20 per annum for services rendered as ferryman at Matekitaki previous to that amount being voted. Matter not entertained. From the Property -Tax Commissioner stating that the paragraph which appeared in the LnangahuaTimes of February 22nd, relative to the omission from the Valuation Roll of the County of the names of property-holders who were entitled to be enrolled, was incorrect ; as all persons who were entitled in accordance with section 3of " The Rating Act, 1882," were enrolled. From the Chairman of the Grey County stating that the claim of LloB l7s Id made to the Grey County Council wuuld not be entertained. From Mr Scantlebury, Secretary of I Fire Brigade asking Council to erect belfry near Mr O'Neill's. .Matter referred to Engineer with power to act. Frotn Daniel Sullivan, Upper Buller, offering to keep track in repair from Doughboy Flat to Castleannie for the sum of L3O per annum . Referred to Engineer Resolved that Mrs Irving be informed that the Council cannot depart from the conditions of letter forwarded her. From the Manager of the Imperial Company relinquishing right to the use of the diamond drill. From Somerville and others asking ouncil to connect Rainy Creek road by foot track with Crushington-Reefton road. The Chairman was instructed to make application to have the road reserve, surveyed through Overend's lease, handed over to the Council. From Mr C. Minderman requesting Council to grant him a lease of the ferry reserve at the Junction, or compensation for improvements he had made. Resolved that the matter be referred to the County Solicitor with instructions to assist Mr Mindermann in the matter of his application. From the Manager of the Eureka ompany requesting the Council to make dray road under the Fiery Cross tramway as early as possible ; also letter relinquishing Company's right to use of diamond drill.

A discussion arose relative to financial matters. Proposed by Mr Patterson, seconded by Mr Williams, and carried— That the executive committee be empowered to wait upon the managers of the banking establishments in Reefton, and ask them for an advance of L4QOO for twelve months. If that should be refused, and should they be uuable to make arrangements with the banks iv Reefton that >ho committee be empowered to make arrangments with other banks, the banking account to be shifted in accordance with such arrangment. The hairman was instructed to take action against parties mentioned by the Inspector under the ealth Act. Resolved that a footbridge be erected across Blackwater, near Mr Doig's property. Moved by Mr. Brennan, seconded by Mr. Patterson, and carried that the use of the diamond drill be offered to the public gratis, provided it be handed back in good order as received. Rout. Fitch's application was objected to by Mrs Danks and not entertained. William Faler's application in respeot of section 861 was unaccompanied by • rown grant, and not entertained. George Batiri (Antonio's) in place of R. W. Fuller. H. Jacobsen for Jacob Cohen. The Chairman stated that the National Bank overdraft would not be permitted to exceed L2OO >.
