INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The regular monthly meeting of the Council was held at the Chambers on Wednesday evening last.
Present : The Chairman and Messrs Patterson. Irving and Williams. CORRESPONDENCE IKWARDS. From E; Shaw, re Cannihal Gorge. From H. G. Hankin, objecting to the erection of the belfry near his section in Broadway Moved by. Mr Patterson, seconded by Mr Craig and carried, that the belfry be. erected at the corner of Sheil and Walshstreets Carried. From William Grady, requesting the Council to repair track leading from the Buller road to his residence. • Engineer instructed to report upon the track in question, and furnish estimate. Proposed by Mr Craig, hat the information asked by the Secretary of Mines be supplied, and that the diamond drill be offered for sale to the Government for the sum of £1,000, seconded by Mr Irving, and carried. .
From Alexander Peters, claiming compensation for injuries sustained by him through traffic over his head water-race.
Engineer instructed to report upon the cost of making deviation. From the Phoenix Company, requesting the construction of a track near their mine.
Moved by Mr Craig, that the engineer prepare plans and specifications immediately, and that tenders be called for the '•(instruction of the track in question. Tenders to close on the 30th inst. Seconded by Mr Irving, and carried. Resolved that, the engiueer erect two foot-bridges across Antonio's Creek, as soon as possible. Resolved that the en>inaer be instructed to dispense with day labor whenever practicable.
Proposed by Mr Irving, seconded by the Chairman and carried that the Chairman write to the Government ro the land proposed to . be .reserved from ' ynch's agricultural lease, arid ask them to* hold over dealing with the application at present..;: ; * •• . ' ■■:■<*■■* A■ ".
The Chairman proposed the, following
motion, notice of which had been given at a previous meeting: " That the following resolution, passed at the meeting of the Council, held on the 25th July, 1883, be' rescinded 'Resolved that as the Act did not empower the Council to grant Mr Lucas such salary the matter could not lie entertained ' seconded by Mr Irving and carried. • Proposed by the Chairman '• That the following resolution passed at the meeting of the Council held on the 23rd January 1884 be rescinded : Resolved tint as Kobert Rowe is now an inmate of Greymouth Hospital his application be not entertained. Seconded by Mr Irving and carried. Resolved that a letter be written to Robert Rowe informing him that this Council hud received his application and provided the Borough Council of Greymouth contributed the sum of £15 this Council would grant a similar amount for the purpose of enabling him to proceed to the hot springs, as recommended by Dr Mortce. Seconded by Mr Irving and carried. Proposed by Mr Irving that the sum of Ll" per annum be paid Mr Lucas as remuneration for his services as clerk of the icensing Bench, such remuneration to date from the date of the last election. Seconded by the Chairman and carried. The meeting then adjourned.
