THE SUSPENSION OF MR GEO. THORNE, JUN.
[Wellington Post May 9.] As considerable cariosity exists regarding the grounds on which Mr George Thorne, jun., has been suspended from his duties as Superintendent of Agents in the Governmpnt Insurance Departement, we may say that it is understood to be in consequence of the following telegram, addressed by Mr Thorne to M r Joseph Mackay, which had been published by the latter since his commital for trial : — Wellington (to Albury), 24th Jan. 1894. Unofficial. — You telegram to Trea surer and Commissioner this morning, received just after latter's telegram to your, puts all the fat in thf fire. Let me advise, you withdraw them. Matters like this impossible to discuss by wire. You forgot Departement has to pay full ratts for all telegrams ; thus the curtness of our replies has helped to cause irritation. Your telegram of nineteenth gave notice in terms of clause seven of agreement which was accepted as such, and there matter ended. If well enough finish M'Kenzie trip and think no more of matter for month, when I will try and see you. Kegretyou misconstrue my telegram.
