There was considerable excitement in political circles to-day consequent upon its becoming known that Major Atkinson had placed the resignation of the Ministry in the hands of the Governor. Later. Mr Ormond has been sent for by His Excellency the Governor to form an administration. Later. It is publicly known that Mr Ormond after his return from Government House had an interview with Sir Julius Yogel, with the view, it is understood, of trying to arrange matters with him.

There is great activity in political circles this afternoon. The Grey and Montgomery parties held a caucus this afternoon at which Mr Stout attended. At present all is uncertain, and it would he impossible to predict what the upshot will be. Yogel has a strong following and he hos been numerously interviewed by his supporters, but the views of the party are not known out of the camp. The chances are however strongly in favov of Sir Julius having the reins once more. The city is in a very disturbed state politically, but it is not difficult to see that the Grey — Montgomery party now exists hardly more than in name. « W ELLINGTON, 9.
