+ (from our own correspondent. ) DUNEDIN, 4. William Meldrnm, a shanty-keeper at Nethorn, on the Otago Central line, was seriously assaulted at midnight on Monday by three men named Lawrence White, Thomaa Crowley, and Gerald Fitzgerald. Meldrum died through his removal to the hospital. The last two men are in custody, and the police are looking for the other. Wellington, 3. The regulations for thecondjctof the first election of directors of the Government Insurance Association will now pvobably be gazetted iv a day or two. The date of the nomination of candidates has been fixed for the 20th instant, and the election is to take place throughout the Colony during the first week in January.
