During the past week the extension of the drive to connect the chamber at the foot of the main shaft with the winze put down ou the reef has been pushed forward, the distance now in being 54ft. It is expected that a few shifts more will reach the reef. A nice looking leader was met with towards the end of the week, and this with the fact that the driving is wtt goes to prove that the reef is not many fe«t away. The manager reports that those in charge of the surface works will have everything completed in connection with the hauling machinery in nine days time. The time is therefore at hand when active crushing oper ations will be resumed, and those who are in a good position to know have no hesitation in predicting a highly prosperous time in store for the Company The drain upon the shareholders to cany out the extensive works now just completed has been a severe one, but it was undoubtedly good policy to puy for the Works as thpyprpgressv.'d instead of encumbering the company with a load of liabilities which woiiid liav-f delayed the dcclara titin tf uwidi'iids, Jtiid consequently

frightened investors from touching the shareg at anything like the market value which they should command. The directors are herefore to be fairly congratulated upon the prudence they have shown in the conduct of the company's affairs.
