Tbe heavy rain *-*f the past few days has had the effect to some extent of hindering the progiess of the surface works iv hand here, but everything is being pushed on with all the despatch possible, in order tc get the mine and battery connected before the close of the year. In the meantime the battery, which has been lying idle for some time, is receiving a thorough overhaul, so that by the time communication is established the machinery wiil be in thorough going order, and equal to the long and steady work which will shortly he required of it Tbe works in the mine are progressing very satisfactorily. The quantity of stone to grass is growing to goodly proportions, and the quality of the ore now coming from the rise is of a highly payable character. The rise during the week has been carried up 18ft, making the total height now riseu on the reef from the low level 1 10 ft, the reef being at present 4ft in thickness.
