NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. At the annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. #>n>n of Jerusalem, held at Christchurch last week, the GovernorGeneral presiding, Lord Liv xpool was elected president. It was decided that His Excellency be requested to ask that itjha offer of the British Red Cross to re: urn £30,000 be accepted' ' and that it be recommended that afl ter the claims of sick aid wounded soldiers and sailors and military nurses have been satisfied, the money be used in establishing a fund for providing trained nurses for the alleviation of sickness and suffering wherever necessary. A letter from the New Zealand Bed Cross Commissioner in London with regard to starving children in Europe was received; It was resolved that the question of a further grant to the starving children fund be referred to the executive with power to act. The following resolution was carried: "That having considered the circular letter of the Minister of Internal Affairs of October 23, this Council desires to point out that ite war activities cannot cease until the military hospitals in New Zealand have been evacuated and that thereafter its objects are likely to be extended to oth°r objects in peace time which are to be undertaken at the suggestion of the international conference of the provision of Clause 25 of the League of Nations, so that it will have ample use for all the funds which are in hand at the present time."
