DOMINIONS' SOLDIERS.
MILLION MEN UNDER, ARMS
OVER '300.000 FROM CANADA
x LONDON, April 2. At the ; luncheon given to-day to fthe Dominion War .Cabinet' representatives by- the Members of the House >of Commons, Sir Robert Borden, Prime Minister ol' Canada, remarked that 1,000,000 men Irom the Overseas .Dominions had enlisted. During the past 20 mouths bhe strength of the 'Canadian contingents had increased from 75,000 to 400,(X)0, and over : 300,000 had gone overseas. The Ger- ' mans were fighting in desperation under the delusion • that we were ■ seeking to crush Germany and ternri- . nate her national existence. This was never the British intention. It was impossible to crush a nation of 70,000,000 people, but Germany must 'be taught Iha t military aggression was neither a profitable nor a legitimate business, and that the world's con- • science would not tolerate the ruthless violation ol the liberties of small nations.
The British Constitution, Sir Robert added, was che most flexible instrument of -government ever • devised. He believed that the Imperial War Cabinet indicated a line •of Constitutional development in the immediate future, and he discerned therein the birth of , a new and greater Imperial Commonwealth.
