» . i Wednesday, 9th March, 1880. j (Before li. Ward Esq. (Chairmau), Rev. J. | M' Williams, Or. Hewson, and Mr ' Simcox, Commissioners.) i An application was made by Allan Car- j mont for a license for a hotel, at Otaki, to b-j called the " Traveller's Rest." The application was accompanied by the usual householders' declaration, signed by the following persons : — F. Bills.G. Spackman, T. Bills, W. Jenkins, G. Rawliusou, J. Cootes, J. Abbot, T. M 'Lelland, T. Udy, G. Dawson, E. Turley, and F. Abel. A petition signed by Go residents, and to which was attached the letter which appears in another column, was handed in in support of the application. After some consideration, the Bench said they saw no reason to alter their previous decision, and the application would be refused. The Chairman said he believed some of the statements made in the letter in reference to the sitting room ac.ommodation at the Telegraph Hotel were based on good grounds, aud, addressing Mr Greenough, iv formed him that he could hold oufc no inducement for a renewal of his license unless improvements in the direction indicated w.re made. Mr Greenough said that he had consulted two architects ou the matter, who were both of the opinion that it would entail great expense to alter the hotel ; in fact, tho whole frout would have to be pulled down. However, he intended to make au alteration in the way of providing more sitting room accommodation, and the attention would b\i m ide as soon as possible. The Court then adjourned.
