MINISTERIAL CHANGES.
The Wairarapa Daily referring to the retirement of Mr Whitaker, expresses its opinion that the safest man m the Ministry has gone and perhaps the rashest man m it comes to the top. How long this new arrangement is likely to last is very doubtful. Our contemporary considers that Major Atkinson can at the very best only hope for a short innings. The feeling of the country is evidently m favour of a change of government, and if it does not find expression next session, it will be manifested m the general election which will follow it. Harry Albert Atkinson first became a Cabinet Minister m 1864. For a period of nine years subsequent to his first appointment, he was out m the cold, but for the past decade he has been m office eight out of the ten years. We believe thajfc it would be good for him and good for the country, to be relegated for a brief period to the opposition benches. He may live through another session, but we shall be very much surprised if h"e survives the following one.
