A GOOD SUGGESTION.
It is rfo uncommon occurrence, says a Southern paper, for tenders informally made out to be scut to our local bodies. < for consideration, with the. result .that the Boards are put to a considerable amount of inconvenience, and are ! sometimes compelled to reject tenders, which it might under other circum-; stances he to their advantage to accept. I But the Boards themselves are hot always free from blame, and thatjfor two ' reasons. First, through neglecting to state plainly atid specifically ,m what! form the tender must'be nia'de out j and ■ secondly, through the peruiciousj prac- ; tice of accepting tenders subject tp t tlie; tenderer making some alteration, or giving some explanation afterwards. It would cost but little to have a short code of regulations framed and printed, and to supply every contractor with a copy, at the same time informing him that every tender not made out exactly m accordance with the instructions would not receive a , moment's considation. "We contend that when only a few shillings are at Btake, the contract sbonl'd' be given to the man who tenders formally; ie would teach all contractors a salutary lesson. We would even advise that no informal tender should be considered, no matter how advantageous the offer or how trustworthy the contractor. Jt is tantamount to treating the other tenderers unjustly- ■■ .;
