Removal of Constable Grillespie.
Telegrams aie still jiassing between several of out leading towusmen and the heads of the Department m WeN liiigton with regard to this matter, the nature of the replies received being withheld m the meantime. Under these circumstances, comment on the part'of the press would be premature just yet. We wish to be fully conversant with all the bearings of 'the case before committing ourselves to any definite opinion, which, viewed m the light of subsequent information, might prove to have been hastily formed, and possibly erroneous. We trust the proposal to tar-and-ieather and burn m effigy the accredited author of the quiifci- official defamatory report, that has; led to the impending changes,' will not be carried into effect, as popular indignation can find a more dignified form of expression than that, however merited and appropriate such treatment might be considered.-
