Special to the Standard. Wellington, This Day. The steamers Tni and Jane Douglas arrived last night. A southerly gale is blowing this morning. # Another newspaper under the title of the Wellington Evening Press is announced to be published next month. The Post's London letter speaks very hopefully of the frozen moat trade which it says is developiug at'o -wonderfully rapid rate and that the Home market is generally quite exhausted before each shipment comes to baud, the demand being m excess of tmr supply. A painful case, here of a merchant whose name is prominently mentioned m connection with alleged misappropriation of trust funds. The amount is found to be very large. He is one of the oldest residents of the city, and has relathes on the West Coast and m the Rangitikei district. The amount deficient has been raised by •various forced mortgages. The services of a leading Wellington counsel have been retained for the defence of the suitfor libel, Russell against McKelvie and McMinn.
