Despatches have been received from Admiral Miest, commanding the French squadron m Malogary ■waters, announcing that he has broken off' parleying which for some time has been proceeding with the view to a settlement of affairs, and m consequence of the unyielding attitude of the natives has established a blockade of the whole coast of Madagascar. Cairo, May 28. Statements have reached here to the effect that a new Mahdi has appeared m Darfour Country. He has, it is said, secured the allegiance of several tribes and fought a pitched battle with the followers of Mohammed Ahmer, the reputed Mahdi, m which the latter were defeated with heavy loss.
