Manawatu Road Board.
(Continuation of Report.) Proposed by Mr Snelson, seconded by Mr Sty, and carried — Thatjthe roadman's (Hanseh) wages be increased to 7s per day from and after September 3rd. Proposed by Mr Akors, seconded by Mr Sly, and zarried— That Mr Prendergast's request contained m his letter of April 23rd re live fence, be granted. . . Proposed by Mr Sly, and seconded by JMr Snelson— That a ranger be appointed for the Board. Mr Akers pointed out that it would be better to adjourn this resolution till next meeting as some of the Wardens were absent. This was decided upon and the secretary requested to notify same to the members when calling next meeting. Resolved — That permission be given to Mr Sly to have the necessary repairs executed on Maxwell's line, Jackeytown road, and the approach to Lqngburn bridge. A ratepayer named Jameson who had received a notice to pay rates which he believed he. had already paid and so refused to pay same, called on the collector and gave him , all sorts of abusive language m reference thereto. The clerk m endeavouring to explain the nature of the application (which happened to be the ordinary couuty rate, only that the Road Board had to collect it since the suspension of the county) received only still further abuse. He therefore natu--raily-owaagitieQk -euteraunjttnontifor thu account, which Jameson ha'vftrg received waited on the board with and was in-, formed ho would have to settle same at the courthouse and. pay the cost of the summons. The Chairman did not think the Government would refund hjm this ' last expense. ' .
