ENGINE-DRIVERS STATEMENT.
(UNITED PRESS A.SSOCIATIOU,) Auckland, This Day. The train had about 200 passengers on board. The wind had cleared the tunnel of smoke, otherwise could not have seen the runaway engine approaching. Butfor this nothing could have saved a f-arful calamity, from which none would have been left to tell the tale. When the collision look place his train was going about a mile an hour, and the runaway going ' at about 10 miles an hour. When the engines met he jumped on i board the runaway and shut off steam.
