Caledonian Society.
A general meeting of members of the above Society was held last evening at the Commercial Hotel. Present': — Messrs Bentley, "Weight, Liggirtwood, Flood, Pirani, Littlejohn, Fenton, Robert. Partridge, Cowper, Jensen, and Mowlem. Mr Weight m the chair. Minutes of previous meeting read and con firmed. Proposed by Mr Fenton, seconded by Mr Cowper — That the Society hold its. first sports on May 24th. The programme was submitted by the Games and Ground Committee, showing prizes amounting to about £45. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Cowper — That the programme read be adopted, subject to alteration by Games and Gronncl Committee. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Cowper — That the handicappers and judges be appointed by the meeting. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Flood —That Messrs Cow»ar, Partridge, and Pirani, be handicappers. Resolved, on motion of Mr Cowper — That Mr Weight be starter for running and walking events. Resolved — That Mr Littlejohn be judge of running and walking events. . . Resolved— That Messrs Clappertph, ; LiVgertwood, Clifford, and Kavanagh, be judges of pipe music and dancing. Resolved— That Messrs W. T. Wood, Waugh, and W. Fenton, be judges for wrestling and heavy events. Resolved— That Messrs Linton, Flood, and Ferguson, be judges for the bicycle, vaulting, and tilting events. Mr Liggertwood here stated that he would give a special prize of a silver medal for single stick competition. The matter of advertising and printing was left m the handg of the secretary and Mr Short. : The Secretary was instructed to write to the various' Friendly Societies m Palmerston, and ask that their co operation be given to the movement. The meeting then adjourned.
