LAWN TENNIS. ST. JOHN’S v. BULLS. [Special to “Standard.”] FEILDING, Dec. 6. A team from St. John’s Tennis Club journeyed to Bulls on Saturday afternoon and played an inter-club match with the Bulls elect. Favoured by ideal weather condit-ions_ good games wero witnessed, the homo team proving too strong for the visitors, winning by 20 sets and 180 games to four sots and 108 games. Following are tho detailed scores, St. John’s' players being mentioned first : Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Barltrop lost to Miss Walker, 3-7; Mrs Stuckey lost to Miss Wilson 1-7; Miss Parker lost to Mrs Raye, 3-7; Miss Foster beat Mrs Mansell, 7-6; Miss Amadio boat Miss Green, 7-2; Mrs Lange lost to Miss Vile, 6-7. Men’s Singles.—K. Robinson lost to Mancell, 7-9; H. McConochie lost to C. Farrer, 5-9; W. Bramweli boat Green, 9-7; R. Micrs lost to W. Farrer, 5-9; H. Chadwick lost to Henderson, 2-9; R. Murphy lost to Holmes, 2-9. Ladies’ Doubles.—Miss Barltrop and Mrs Stuckey lost to Misses Walker and Wilson, 2-7; Misses Parker and F’oster lost to Mrs Rayo and Miss Vile, 6-7; Miss Amadio and Mrs Lange beat Mrs Mancell and Mrs Green, 7-0. At the conclusion of the match tho visitors were entertained at tea by the home team. > ,
S.P.C.A. Tho Feilding branch of the S.P.C.A. met on F'riday evening when Mr J. S. Tingey was welcomed back from his trip abroad and elected president. In returning thanks, Mr Tingey said that he would do all he could to further the interests of the society, for ho realised that there was still room tor improvement in the treatment of dumb animals. hollowing a discussion, it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs D. Higgins and A. Williamson, to inform the Palmerston North branch that Feilding could not accept the proposal for sharing the Palmerston North inspector’s duties. It was decided to make enquiries regarding a complaint respecting a consignment of pigs which, it was' alleged," had been left in some Feilding yards for a period of 24 hours.
Tho resignation of Miss A. M. Prr as secretary was accepted with regret and a motion recording appreciation of her services was carried. Miss V. I. McKenzie undertook the duties until the next annual meeting. A donation of £5 was made to Mr J. A. Forbes Dominion organiser of animal welfare week.
