RONGOTEA
BRASS BAND FORMED. [From Our Own Correspondent.] Another meeting for the purpose of forming a brass band was held in the Town Board room on Friday evening. Mr W. Brady presided over a largo attendance of enthusiasts. The instrument committee, which was instructed at the last meeting to make enquiries from various sources for the purchase of suitable second-hand brass instruments, reported that the latter were to be procured from the Foxton Silver Band and submitted a detailed prico list of the variout instruments for sale, numbering in all eleven.
It was decided to procure the instruments (with the exception of three) subject to suitable terms being arranged with the vendors.
It was also decided that members pay a subscription and that the instruments become the property of the band. Tho following subscription fees wore fixed: Playing members, £1; honorary members, ss. Instrument owners are to be invited to join at the honorary members’ fee. The instrument committee was instructed to mako the necessary arrangements for suitable terms regarding tho purchaso of the instruments from tho Foxton Band. A president’s and vice-presidents’ Mst was opened up. Mr W. Brady reported that the Palmerston North Band had offered to visit Rongotea and play sacred selections one Sun r day afternoon, when a collection would bo taken up to’ defray tho travelling expenses, any surplus moneys to become the property of the Rongotea Band. It was decided to accept thp generous offer, and Mr W. Brady is to arrange for the concert on a suitable Sunday when afternoon tea will bo provided for tho visitors by the members of the local band. The instrument committee consisting of Messrs G. Livingstono F. J. Guthrie, A. Beckman, W. J. Brady, 11. V. Algar, C. Cowan and \V. A. Hurst, was appointed trustees for the band property. NOTES. Exceptionally keen interest is being displayed in connection with tho forthcoming flower show and it is anticipated that the various stands will be well filled. In recent years the show authorities have endeavoured to- brighten tho show in tho evening by means of a musical entertainment and an excellent programing has been arranged by Mrs L. Melles, who so capably organised the evening’s entertainment at the last show. Thanks are duo to Mrs W. J. Davis for the donation of flowering plants and shrubs' for planting in the post office square. The friends of Mrs M. F. Blaxland will learn with regret that she has been forced to enter a private hospital in Palmerston Nortli for treatment. It is hoped that she will mako a speedy recovery.
