SHANNON NOTES.

(Special to “Standard.”) SHANNON, Dee. 4. The president, Mr A. T. Whito, presided at a well-attonded meeting of the Bowling Club when it was resolved that tho singles and pairs championship commence in tho first week in February, tho two lifo system to be adopted. Two games are to bo played each week, one single and one pairs. Tho selection committee is to grade tho players into two grades and tho winners of each grado are to meet, the ultimate winners of two out of three games to bo declared tho champions. The rink games will commence next week to bo finished before Christmas. The green committee was empowered to procure tho necessary material for top-dressing, and to. obtain the services of an expert in carrying out tho work. A vote of thanks was accorded tho winners of tho Manson and Barr and Dixon Cups and the Kinneburg Feathers, arrangements being made to have tho photographs taken of tho respective rinks , with their trophies. An honours board is to bo procured on which tho names of tho past presidents will bo inscribed. CHORAL SOCIETY. The annual meeting of tho . Choral Society was held in tho Parish Hall when there was a largo attendance of members. The president, Mr A. H. Morgan, occupied tho chair. The secretary reported that the net profit resulting from the last concert was £6 6s 6d, it being tho most successful 'one givon by tho society. Tho balance-sheet and profit and loss account wero placed before the meeting, there being shown a small deficit on the year’3 activities. The president congratulated tho society on its endeavours during tho year and pointed out that the financial position was fairly satisfactory considering the fact that tho society had been faced with tho expense of purchasing an extension to and seating accommodation for the stage. As , a means of raising reserve funds for tho coming year it was decided to circularise residents of the town with a view to obtaining hon. members at a fee of 10s 6d each, such membership entitling them to receive two tickets for each concert given by tho society during the year. The election of office-bearers resulted as follow: —President, Mr A. H. Morgan; vice-president, Mr J. Aim; hon. conductor, Mr Howard Andrew; hon. pianist, Mrs Clifford Jones; hon. librarian, Miss G. Jones ;• hon. secretary, Mr E. T. Moody; committee, Mesdames Barber, Jones, Cronquest, Morgan and Miss Quarrie/Mr Owen, Mr Kennedy, Mr Hiboll. ' It was decided that subscriptions be the same as last year, namely 2s 6d per member. After a general discussion the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair after which supper was partaken of. CONCERT AT MANGAHAO. The members of tho Choral Society visited Kangahao last woek and gave a concert there. Many of tho members journeyed up in the afternoon and took advantage of tho opportunity of inspecting the works under tho guidance of their, hosts. Tho members wero loud in their .praise of the hospitality extended to them. Some of the items' wero those given at the last concert, together with a few. of tho old favourites. The choir was again augmented by members of tho Levin and Palmerston North choral societies. Solos • were rendered by Miss N. Killick, Miss-A. Aim, Mrs C. Cronquct, Mr S. Kingston, Mr Cronquest. and Mr Howard Andrew, and elocutionary items by Miss L. Hancock. Encores wero ■ numerous and that the concert was enjoyed by all was shown by the applauso given to each item. After supper the floor was cleared for dancing which continued until tho early hours of tho morning.
