SHIP WORKERS’ CLAIMS.

CONCILIATION COUNCIL HEARING

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 6. The Conciliation Council on Friday and Saturday considered claims by shipwrights and ships’ carpenters for an increase in wages and improvements in the general conditions of work. For the first time since the Arbitration Act came into operation claims were made on behalf of men employed at sea. All matters in dispute were arranged in a satisfactory manner, with the exception of those claims relating to wages and overtime rates in one section and payment for dirty work, which points arc referred to the court.
